How to make perfect croissants newsletter from France

View of mountains, bright red and pink flowers and the sea in Corsica

I’m back from my French Riviera and Corsican caper and busy working on the Summer issue of The Good Life France Magazine – and I can’t wait to share it with you, it’s looking fantastic (subscribe for free here)…

When I arrived home I got the cold shoulder from Tigger the cat. She was disgusted that her human cushion went AWOL for so long. But I seem to have taken the heat of the south back to the north with me. In fact it has been so warm this week I’ve been dreaming of ice cream and had to stick one leg out from under the duvet at night! Summer seems to be well and truly on the way in France. And that can only mean one thing… time for men to get the Speedos out!

Pool time

It doesn’t matter how long I have been in France, I cannot get used to the fact that in public swimming pools, it is the law for men to have to wear teeny weeny swimming trunks. It’s been this way since 1903. And though the topic of amending the law to allow men to wear less eye-popping pants is regularly discussed by French government officials, it is always rejected ‘because it’s more hygienic.’ Woe betide any man who makes it to the water of a pool in normal swimming attire. Lifeguards blow whistles, point, shout and haul out the offender. I love France. I love the people and the way of life. But some things here will never make sense to me. And that rule is definitely one of them.

A massive thank you

Finally, my new book Toujours la France is out in paperback in America, Australia and everywhere from next Friday May 27. It’s been out in the UK for a couple of weeks now and thank you so, so much to everyone who has left a lovely review on Amazon and wrote to me telling me how much you’ve enjoyed it. And to those of you who have sent me photos of yourselves reading Toujours la France or any of my books – a massive thank you. I keep all those photos and absolutely love them! I hate having my own photo taken but, in Antibes a couple of weeks ago, I walked past a book shop and saw all my books on the shelf. It brought out a little happy dance in me, which got the attention of the book shop owner, so she took a photo of me holding them – you can see my big, happy smile here on Instagram (photo 2)!

Bon weekend, and bisous from a little village in northern France where the sun is shining,.
