Hope your week was good and you’re having better weekend weather than me! We’ve had rain and thunder and lightning this week and it’s not feeling much like summer I can tell you. But, the garden is full of jewel like colours – and all the beautiful flowers and leaves are just too tempting to my delinquent ducklings. Most of them are too big to squeeze through the gaps in the fence now but there are a dozen of them who can still just about do it and they are like little pigs with wings, eating everything they can. Sometimes they congregate outside the back door and if they see me walk into the room they get excited and squeak and jump up and down. I’ll miss them when they have to stay in their own bit of the garden but the cats won’t. These little ducks have no fear and they chase the cats off their food and off their cushions on the terrace. Poor little Hank Marvin He’s Always Starvin’ (well he’s not any more but he was when I found him) is horrified by their lack of manners. Fat Cat who rarely moves has been seen almost sprinting from the terrace when ducks sit right next to her and peck at her tail. Some of the ducklings are going to new homes next week where they’ll be loved and have more room, I’ve just got too many for comfort now.
Meanwhile, I’ve had an epiphany! And no, it wasn’t painful! For ages now I’ve dreamed of living in Paris but with 6 cats, 3 dogs, and numerous chickens, ducks and geese who are pets, it just isn’t going to happen any time soon. Can you imagine elegant Parisian neighbours when a farm moves in next door? So now I’m planning to go and spend a month in Paris in rented accommodation and have someone live in my house to look after the animal family. My husband says “it won’t happen” but I think if I don’t start planning then he’ll be right and I’ll never get to live my dream and I’d rather have it for a month than not at all – so watch this space…
