I’ve been looking at houses in France, I can’t help it! I love my little farmhouse but, there are so many gorgeous properties on the market to tempt me. And some of you too it seems! I’ve had lots of emails from people asking for help not quite knowing where to start looking in their chosen area or just where to start. I’m always happy to try to help and to put home hunters in touch with my local estate agent friends if you have questions, so feel free to contact me any time.
I bought some cheese at the market this week that has me dreaming of Corsica. I’ve never been there but this cheese is enough to make me think about going. I was walking through the cobbled square at Hesdin near where I live, on Thursday morning – market day. It was a sunny day and the market was buzzing, wonderful smells came from the street food stalls, of tartiflette and couscous, roasted chicken and other delectable dishes. I bought some melons “when do you want to eat them” asked the young lad on the stall and then picked them to suit my requirements. I got a just baked baguette from the boulangerie and was nibbling the end of it as I passed a stall where a man called out “would you like a taste”. Well it would be churlish to say no wouldn’t it and he held out a plate with a sliver of cheese. I popped it into my mouth and felt my eyes widen in surprise. It was utterly delicious, creamy, salty and rich. “My mother makes it at our home in Corsica” said the man on the stall who is getting on a bit and had me wondering how old his mum is. I had to buy some and everyone who has come to my house has been given a taste, the post lady, friends and the man who delivers the bread. We’re all agreed, none of us have ever had cheese like it. It’s intoxicating, addictive, I’ll be going back next week to get some more and I’ve added Corsica to my bucket list so I can go and find the cheese making mum!
