An extraordinary exhibition takes visitors behind the scenes to celebrate some of the many films made at luxurious Château Vaux-le-Vicomte.
On the occasion of the launch of Season 2 of the series “Versailles” – as well as Dany Boon’s latest comedy “RAID Dingue” – Château Vaux-le-Vicomte has opened its doors, enabling visitors to explore behind the scenes of some of the many films and movies shot here.
Anyone familiar with the history of this magnificent castle about an hour’s drive outside of Paris will instantly recognize it as the château that made young Louis XIV so jealous that soon after he laid eyes on it he had its owner, his finance minister Nicolas Fouquet, arrested… then nabbed its architects and built Versailles.
But for movie buffs its luxurious interior and grounds are recognizable as both setting and sets for many memorable films made here such as “The Man In The Iron Mask,” “Marie-Antoinette,” and “Moonraker” where James Bond does a double take when he sees it for the first time from the air.
Gorgeously authentic period costumes by talented créatrice Madeline Fontaine are on exhibit as well as projections of some of the more notable scenes. Visitors are treated to displays of how a film morphs from a storyboard conception to the big screen, and enter rooms turned into reconstructions of actual film sets, immersing them into the magic of movies and movie making.
