On 4th September 2017 two English couples who have made the Deux-Sèvres their permanent home, will be setting off to cycle 425km around the department, raising money for the associaton Rêves.
Sarah Berry, 41, proprietor of The Deux-Sèvres Monthly magazine and her husband Rob, 50, a self-employed plasterer, were completely new to cycling when they took on this challenge. They have spent as much time as possible this summer out on their bikes, training for the challenge that will see them completing up to 85kms in a day, over six consecutive days.
Joining them will be keen cyclists Jacqui and Adrian Brown. Management consultant Adrian, 47, is the mastermind behind the figure of eight circuit that begins and ends in Secondigny and includes the Pays Mellois, Niort and the Marais Poitevin, Parthenay, Thouars and Bressuire. Jacqui, 45, who writes a blog about family life in a French village www.frenchvillagediaries.com has suffered from epilepsy since she was five, so taking part in this event to raise money for children’s charity Rêves will be a challenge, but one she is looking forward to conquering.
The associaton Rêves raises money to realise the dreams of children and adolescents who are seriously ill. Sarah chose this charity because she can’t have children herself, so feels it would be wonderful to help those who are going through tough times. Through Rêves, children can escape from everyday life and experience unforgettable moments with their families, giving them strength and confidence to fight against their illnesses.
