Update: Gérard Collomb, the Mayor of Lyon, has announced that, given the recent tragic events, the Fête des Lumières will not be able to take place in its usual manner – one of joy, poetry and celebration. Instead. the Fête des Lumières will be transformed into a vigil for the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris, which will be held on the 8th of December only. The people of Lyon will light up the city by placing candles in their windows.Two of Lyon’s landmark buildings – the Incity tower and the Part-Dieu tower (affectionately referred to as ‘Le crayon’ (the pencil) by locals) will be lit up to reflect the spirit of the candles.
The Festival of Lights is one of Lyon’s most famous festivals, it broadcasts Lyon’s heritage and creates an immense buzz throughout the city.
